Artisan designer specialising in Extra- Weft Weaving, based in Bhujodi, Kutch. He is a Somaiya Kala Vidya graduate from the 2014 batch.

About the Craft

EXTRA-WEFT WEAVING

Kutchi extra weft weaving is an ancient craft form, the core of Kutch’s textile industry. Unlike other weaving techniques, it is characterized by very explicit motifs that are woven in by hand by picking each individual yarn to insert an extra weft. It can create bold textures on the background - which is plain fabric, making it appear as if it is embroidered.
It reflects the creativity of the Vankar or weaver who has learned the craft from his ancestors.
